This easy win against Shakhtar was the biggest City have had in the Champions League but most attention has been given to the award of a penalty in the first half. Although from where I was sitting it looked like a penalty apparently Sterling stubbed his toe and fell rather than being brought down. The referee gave a penalty but surely the official on the goal line must have seen it. Anyway Jesus scored from the spot kick and added to Silva's earlier goal following great work by Mahrez. Sterling added a cracker early in the second half and then when Silva was brought down Jesus notched his second from the spot. Mahrez made it 5 and then in the final seconds Jesus broke away and chipped the ball over the keeper to make it six and complete his hat-trick - probably his first for City. Once again it was a great team performance although the opposition was pretty poor . A repeat of six nil would be nice on Sunday!
City rested several players bringing in Zinchenko and Jesus for Mendy and Aguero.
There were only a few hundred of visiting fans and even the booing of certain music was pretty low
