Early start from Cimarron for a long drive down interstate 25 towards Santa Fe. Passed by a town called Las Vegas! Not quite the size of the Nevada version though. After a three hour drive I arrived at Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks National Monument. The area is 40 miles SW of Santa Fe and 50 miles north of Albuquerque. I would have preferred better lighting and the path to the viewpoint overlooking the rocks was blocked which was disappointing. The hoodoos, erosional cones and pedestal rocks that feature in the area were formed over a million years ago during volcanic eruptions. Water and wind have played their part in forming the different shapes.
