USA 2008 - Day 16
Once again visited the Petrified Forest but this time entering from the South off the 180 and spent a couple of hours or so in the Crystal Forest photographing some of the incredible colorful petrified logs that once held glassy amethyst and quartz crystals. Among some of the images below you will find some wild and fearsome faces. See if you can spot them! I had not realized what a goldmine this area is for capturing textures. Well worth a visit but allow plenty of time.
The Petrified Forest was set aside in 1906 as a National Monument to preserve and protect the petrified wood for its scientific value but it offers much more for the visitor.
