Days
13 and 14-Arches National Park
A
couple of full days in the Moab area.shooting 374 digital images and driving 260
miles covering Arches Park, the Colorado River, and Canyonlands. I also took the
opportunity of having my Fuji slide film processed in Moab I had shot 27 upto
day12 - a mixture of Provia, Sensia and Velvia. Action Photos of Main Street,
Moab gave a good fast clean service and I was able to compare the traditional
results with the digital ones. It also reduced the weight for the return journey!
A
drive down the 128 gave a few opportunities for some more infra red images on
the Dimage 7. 1/30 at f8 was the exposure at 200 asa with a 87 opaque filter.
Just
before dawn in Arches Park - shot from near the petrified sand dunes
Delicate
Arch shot with the 28mm focal length and 200mm focal length. I had hoped to get
to a better viewpoint but had spent too much time on a dawn time lapse earlier
so I had to make do with a longer view. It was still a bit of a trek uphill to
the highest viewpoint however.
Holiday
makers enjoying a few hours on the Colorado River
The
afternoon light helps to give depth to these images from the Windows Section
Double
Arch on the left and Turret Arch above - lacking sunshine I am afraid as the clouds
built up.
Today
the light was changing every minute and there was a last burst of sunshine on
South Window before the approaching storm
The
stormy clouds stopped any thoughts of some pictures at sunset today.
Dawn
on Day 14 from the Island in the Sky in Canyonlands. The image above is a composite
of two images, one to capture the sky and the other for details in the foreground.
On
the way from the dawn pictures I spotted this chap near the roadside. I had to
approach carefully and used some bushes as both cover and out of focus foreground
material in this 200mm focal length shot.
Early
morning light on the Mesa Arch. This image is one of the few scanned in from a
film original. The 28mm of the Dimage was not quite wide enough. I had to use
the 18mm of the Sigma Zoom lens on the F4 to get the full width of the Arch.
Coming
back down from the Canyonlands I spotted this tree in a camp site not far from
the road. It had some lovely shapes and worth a few shots.
The
approaching storm and dark clouds give a great contrast to the foreground. I also
filmed the storm on the horizon and was able to use one of the lightning strikes.
The
setting sun gave some lovely lighting effects on the clouds and the distant La
Sal mountains
