Redstone to Green River, Goblin Valley and Moab
An
early start from Redstone to visit the old mine at Marble near to the McClure
Pass . Alas the weather was pretty grim with heavy rain at the start but improved
as I headed out of Colorado into Utah and Green River. The journey was quicker
than estimated so for evening light I went straight to Goblin Valley before returning
to a motel in Green River. Next morning I headed for Moab and Arches National
Park. Total digital images for the 2 days was 248 and a milleage of 550.
The
trees lining the road to Marble were covered in mist as the rain came down restricting
the photo opportunities.
As
I returned to Redstone the weather improved but there was a long drive ahead so
there was no going back.
Above
are a few pictures from Goblin Valley the lower one being a panorama taken from
the observation platform. However do explore this 'Hoodoo Heaven' by joining these
lovely gnarled sandstone knobs on the valley floor. Morning and evening are the
best times to capture these unusual shapes some of them looking like chess pieces.
The
next morning I headed for Moab and once I had booked into a motel I revisited
Arches . I last visited the park in 1983 and I doubted much had changed.
The
presence of cumulus clouds gave added interest to the wonderful rock formations.
I managed to find some foreground interest for the image of Balanced Rock on the
right.
Dead
Horse Point State Park is a favorite place for photos at dawn and dusk. There
are super views, though at sunset part of the view of the Colorado is in shadow.
Two
views of the 'Garden of Eden' The combination of the heavy cloud cover and sunlight
help the pictorial effect.
Another

Panorama

As
the sun finally
went down the problem with the landscape is that it almost flat so I had to find
a tree to give me a silhouette.
