With 70 minutes played and City only one up we were just a little worried that Hull might snatch an equalizer and then it would be a late night. Fortunately on came Iheanacho for Bony and with ten minutes to go Sterling (on for Navas) crossed for Kelechi to prod home to give City a two goal lead. Kevin De Bruyne added two more before in added time Hull scored a goal which should not have stood as Iheanacho had been fouled on the half way line. It was not the best of games as Hull defended in depth for most of the first half so it was a good job City scored early through Bony after De Bruyne had hit the post. Delph and Fernandinho did well in midfield and star of the defence was Otamendi who looks a first choice in central defence now. Silva was captain for the day in the absence of Kompany, Hart and Toure and he showed that he is almost back to his best and it was good to see his linking with De Bruyne. I hope Iheanacho gets more chances as he took his goal well. City played with a low tempo at times so maybe they are saving it for Stoke at the weekend!
City made several changes and it was strange to see David Silva lead the team out - was this the first time I wonder
Full marks to the 5000 Hull City fans who filled the new top tier of the South Stand
Not good to see so many empty seats in the stands around the ground
City got off to a great start when a defensive error gave Kevin a chance and when his shot hit the post Bony was quick to react and shot into the goal
Congratulations all round then after just eleven minutes
A shot from Hayden is easily saved by Caballero on 18 minutes
Manager Steve Bruce passes on instructions
Bony is penalized for a foul
On 30 minutes Bony tries a shot but it goes straight at the keeper
Elmohamady is told off by the referee
David Silva in action again - thank goodness!
Mangala apologies to Odubajo but still gets a yellow card for the foul
Caballero has two easy saves to make before half time from Akpom and Aluko
The City and Hull mascots watch a vital game to be played at half time
City clear a Hull corner
Navas has to have some treatment
Mangala tries to connect at a corner
On 55 minutes De Bruyne tries a shot from long range but the keeper saves
Navas just misses with a left foot shot
Caballero has to save from Akpom
Otamendi tackles
Following a free kick Silva crashes the ball just wide
Another effort by Silva just goes wide of the far post
That looks like a penalty to me
Delph had a good chance but Jakupovic saved
Otamendi heads clear at a corner
On 79 minutes Silva sent Sterling away on the left wing....
... and he puts in a great cross which Iheanacho prods into the net to give City the all important second goal
The scorer and the provider embrace while the North Stand show their appreciation
We had hardly stopped clapping that goal when Kevin beats the keeper to the ball clipping it over his head for number three
There's plenty to smile about for City fans
Following another City attack they get a free kick....
In the absence of Toure Kevin De Bruyne takes the kick which whizzes over the wall and as the defender and keeper watch spellbound.....
......the ball crashes into the back of the net to make it four nil
De Bruyne has another shot saved
In added time Hull scored through Robertson
but I am sure it was all too late for the Hull fans
Meanwhile the City fans had a semi-final to look forward too as they made their way home
