Once upon a time when it was safe to leave your door open or when cricketers wore white all the time or when you could actually speak to a person when calling a company on the phone, photographers used to take daily weight training exercises by carrying a gadget bag containing umpteen lenses and filters. Now we live in a different age ..the digital age and SLR's have become smaller and lighter. Thank goodness.. I picked up my old Nikon f3 the other day and could hardly lift it.... and to think I used to have to lug it around with a load of lenses. Anyway recently Sigma introduced a lens - 18-200 zoom which is likely to be the ideal traveling companion - covering ....with a Nikon d70..... a focal length range of between 27mm and 300mm no mean feat in itself. In addition it is capable of close-ups (1 :4.4) and is light and easy to use. I found the focussing fast enough on the D70 and you can see some results below. All were taken in the first couple of hours I received it and I will be adding to the gallery soon. You can click on most for a bigger image and unless mentioned as a crop all are full images. You can also see some comparisons with other Sigma lenses.
Unless mentioned otherwise originals are shot as jpeg and hand held.

The above 2 images are 400 x 400 cuts from a 100% Photoshop view . the one on the left is from the 18-125 and on the right is the 18-200. the blow-up is from left of centre and both were jpegs.
This is a 400 x 325 px cut from the edge of the 18mm focal length of the 18-200 zoom
These are blow-ups from the edge of the 200mm focal length and there is a little bit of colour fringing on the one on the left. The one on the right is after fixing in PS.

A 400px x 400px 100% blow-up from the centre is on the right and below is a 600px x 400px 100% blow-up from the right edge. There is a slight loss of sharpness at the edges and there is tiny bit of chromatic abberation at the edges too.
