Lancashire v Kent at Old Trafford
May 3rd 2006 Liverpool Victoria County Championship
First days play at Old Trafford - Kent won the toss and batted on a warm sunny day. Click on an image for a larger version and more details
Fulton and Dexter opened for Kent and looked reasonable comfortable on what looked like a good batting wicket despite the opening attack of Chapple and Sajid Mahmood the latter on the verge of selection for England against Sri Lanka at Lords
The introduction of Tom Smith to replace Chapple caused a few problems for the Kent openers and there were a few near misses
Kent continued to make slow progress against the Lancashire pace attack
Chapple and Hogg failed to disturb the batsmen too much but the introduction of Keedy into the attack brought results
Keedy had Fulton stumped for 40 and Felton caught for 34 but van Jaarsveld was making his presence felt hitting Hogg for several 4's
Kent were 105 for 2 off 35 overs at lunch - not the most exhilarating mornings play
Walker and van Jaarsveld put on 90 before Walker was caught at slip at 187.
Stevens was out to Keedy lbw at 199 and Mahmood had van Jaarsveld leg before for 87 at 237. Kent ended the day at 269 for 7.
